How is the Six-Lane Widening Project being funded? This project is being financed with PA Turnpike toll revenues. No federal funds are involved.
When will the project be completed? The Six-Lane Widening Project encompasses four separate contracts. Three of the construction contracts are complete at this time. The fourth contract (widen and reconstruct the roadway from Milepost 326 to Milepost 331) is scheduled for completion in late fall 2008.
What is the cost of the project? The entire project is estimated to cost a total of $200 million.
Will the Six-Lane Widening Project increase noise in residential neighborhoods? A noise study was performed as part of the Preliminary Design phase of the project. The first step in the study was to perform noise monitoring throughout the project area in order to establish the existing noise levels. The data was then used with a noise model to determine future noise levels and identify noise impacts. Once the impacts were identified, mitigation measures were evaluated to determine if they were feasible and reasonable. As a result several noise walls and other measures are under construction throughout the project limits to mitigate any noise increase.
Will there be any traffic restrictions or detours? There will be short term night-time lane closures and traffic paces throughout the duration of this project which will affect traffic. These single-lane patterns and traffic paces may be utilized during off-peak hours.
How will local traffic be affected? Traffic entering, exiting, and passing through the PA Turnpike Six Lane Widening Project from Milepost 326 to Milepost 334 may be impacted by altered traffic patterns, lane closures and traffic paces until the completion of the construction projects.

Local roadway traffic may be impacted by short term single lane patterns and roadway closures for the construction of the PA Turnpike Bridges over Henderson Road and Crooked Lane in King of Prussia, PA.
Why did the PA Turnpike decide to build new bridges and roadway and not rehabilitate the existing bridges and roadway? A detailed study was completed to determine the most economical and practical solution. Due to the limitation of the existing bridge structures; the condition of the existing drainage system and other utilities; the estimated project duration; the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission determined it was not feasible to utilize the existing roadway and bridges and perform only widening throughout the project.
Why is the PA Turnpike building three travel lanes eastbound and westbound? The current traffic volume is expected to increase 1.5 times by 2028. The addition of one lane in each direction will efficiently manage such rapidly increasing volumes. Upon completion of the project the third lane eastbound will become fully functional, and the third lane westbound will be fully functional up to the Valley Forge Interchange.
What are some of the issues encountered by adding travel lanes? By widening the roadway, more surface runoff has to be taken into consideration and the existing drainage facilities may have to be replaced to handle the increased volume of surface runoff. There may also be an increase in noise along the PA Turnpike as the travel lanes are added. Another issue is creating an efficient design for the construction of the project to minimize impacts to PA Turnpike and local roadway traffic, especially at the Valley Forge Toll Plaza.

How many vehicles travel the Pennsylvania Turnpike around the Valley Forge Interchange? Based on a survey performed in 2005, the average daily traffic volume in 2005 was 60,000 vehicles.
How many vehicles are projected to travel the Pennsylvania Turnpike in the future? The projected average daily traffic volume for 2028 will be approximately 86,000 vehicles.
Are there any other camera views of the Pennsylvania Turnpike besides what is provided for the Six Lane Widening Website? If so where can I find those other camera views of the Pennsylvania Turnpike? You can view other PA Turnpike cameras by visiting the interactive travel map on the PA Turnpike’s webpage, http://www.paturnpike.com/webmap/, and checking the box on the left side of the webpage for traffic cameras, then selecting the individual camera on the interactive map for viewing.

The Project Limits for this Six Lane Widening Construction Project are from PA Turnpike I-276 Milepost 326 to Milepost 334, including the Norristown Interchange Ramps, and including the Valley Forge Interchange Ramps to the Valley Forge Toll Plaza.
How many bridges are being replaced? What other structures are to be constructed? 4 bridges have been replaced so far, 5 bridges are currently under construction. 5 box culverts have been extended. 2 noise walls and 1 soldier pile retaining wall have been constructed. 5 noise walls are currently under construction. 15 retaining walls of various types such as soldier pile retaining walls, mechanically stabilized earth retaining walls, and reinforced soil slopes are currently under construction.
When was the PA Turnpike initial constructed from Valley Forge to Norristown Interchange? The segment of the PA Turnpike from Valley Forge to the Norristown Interchange was initially constructed in 1953.
